The demand for blister, skin, and clamshell packaging will rise through 2026

Thermoforming packaging machine is likely to witness considerable growth from 2022 to 2027. The growth through 2026 for thermoforming equipment will increase with the increasing demand for blister, skin, and clamshell packaging. The demand for this packaging machine is due to its high ability to extend the shelf-life and protect the appearance of products like poultry, meats, and seafood.

Reepack is a company known for its wide range of semiautomatic and fully automatic machines in the thermoforming packaging industry that helps in extending the shelf-life of packed food products. As per the analysis made by a Freedonia Group, the global demand for packaging machinery is expected to expand from 5.8% per year to US$71.1 billion through 2026. The Thermoformers are expected to outperform the most compared to other product types. These innovative food packaging machines help extend the shelf-life and maintain the freshness of food products, help keep disposable instruments and articles sterile, help protect products against aggressive environmental influences, and most importantly, help protect high-quality technical components against corrosion and oxidation.

Based on application, the thermoforming packaging machines market is segmented into pharmaceuticals, food and beverages, chemical and fertilizers, and personal care and cosmetics. Based on machine type, the market is segmented into automatic, semi-automatic, and manual. Whereas, based on distribution channels, the market is segmented into manufacturers and distributors.

According to Chad Deaton, horizontal product line manager Ossid, “There is a cost-saving component used for thermoform packaging as rollstock film minimizes transportation costs and storage space concerns as compared to premade trays or clamshell-like packaging”.

Flexibility is one key factor that has contributed a lot to the continuous success and popularity of thermoform packaging for food processors and consumers. For processors, thermoform packaging allows customization so that packaging can be customized to fit the product’s intended packaged look. For the consumers, this packaging displays the product nicely. The first thing of any product that catches the attention is its appearance. Food packaged on a thermoformer provides an eye-appealing display and also increases the food’s shelf-life, thus giving customers extra time to cook after purchase.

It is not surprising that both food processors and consumers are looking for products with extended shelf-life. Most of the time, the consumers experience that their steak, chicken, or other protein products get spoiled in a few days. Hence, in such a case, thermoform packaging plays an important role in increasing the shelf-life, especially for fresh protein products. On the other hand, its cost-saving components also reduce transportation costs and storage space concerns. The Reepack’s thermoform machine offers customizable elements, especially with respect to the length and output of the machine.

The Covid-19 pandemic led to the country-wide lockdown on 25 March 2020. It will be two years tomorrow as I write this. What have we learned in this time? Maybe the meaning of resilience since small companies like us have had to rely on our resources and the forbearance of our employees as we have struggled to produce our trade platforms.

The print and packaging industries have been fortunate, although the commercial printing industry is still to recover. We have learned more about the digital transformation that affects commercial printing and packaging. Ultimately digital will help print grow in a country where we are still far behind in our paper and print consumption and where digital is a leapfrog technology that will only increase the demand for print in the foreseeable future.

Web analytics show that we now have readership in North America and Europe amongst the 90 countries where our five platforms reach. Our traffic which more than doubled in 2020, has at times gone up by another 50% in 2021. And advertising which had fallen to pieces in 2020 and 2021, has started its return since January 2022.

As the economy approaches real growth with unevenness and shortages a given, we are looking forward to the PrintPack India exhibition in Greater Noida. We are again appointed to produce the Show Daily on all five days of the show from 26 to 30 May 2022.

It is the right time to support our high-impact reporting and authoritative and technical information with some of the best correspondents in the industry. Readers can power Packaging South Asia’s balanced industry journalism and help sustain us by subscribing.
